Just plain ol' me

Do you ever have so many thoughts running through your head you just don't have the time to sit down and write them all out... yeah that has been me lately! I have so much going on that I don't have the time to sit down and write it all out to post on here. But today I am making time to do that...

Warning: lots of random stuff here...

I read so many blogs about people who have kids, people who are trying to get pregnant, people who are funny, people who have dealt with tragedies and all kinds of other scenarios. But I don't have any of that. I am just plain ol' me. I don't have a baby, I am not pregnant nor am I trying to conceive, and I haven't dealt with any kind of tragedy... it is just me and my hubby and our day to day lives. To some it may seem boring but me? I'm thankful for what I have and where I am now. This is exactly where God wants me to be right now. I can't change what he has planned nor do I want to change that...

We have been moving stuff back to our house and I have been going through things to set aside for a yard sale... and I have been reminiscing over pictures, collectibles, our wedding invitation (which we still have oodles of), things from family members that have been passed down to me, just so many different things that bring back so many memories... I found pictures from when Zach and I started dating back in 2002 and it brought back so many memories!!! I found the handkerchief that I carried in memory of my Granddaddy Parker at my wedding. (It was a white handkerchief with a blue "P" embroidered on it so it was my something blue too.) I found nick knacks that I had in my room at my mom and dad's house, I found wedding gifts that got put in the closet that are still in the box, I found my smock from when I worked at the pharmacy... So many memories and I had a blast going through everything.

I can't wait to get my house in order so that I can go through and take pictures and show it to you all. Kelly over at Kelly's Korner is doing a Show us Where You Live Friday series that I completely missed because I have not been at my house so I may do one or two rooms each day for a week so I can get caught up... I want to share our little house with you... and when I say little I literally mean little. We live in a 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms garden home, but it is perfect for us for now...

Ava and Gavin are both growing like weeds. Ava is so funny and she talks all the time, I sure do miss that little girl... It was so weird to go home yesterday after work and not get a hug and a kiss from her... she made my day everyday with her hugs and kisses. Now Mr. Gavin, he is absolutely precious! He is smiling now and it melts my heart for him to smile at me. It melts my heart even more to see Zach interact with him... he is going to be such a great daddy some day!

Do you remember me saying that I won the book The Love Dare? Well I started it last night. I didn't know that it was a 40 day "challenge"... so the next 40 days of reading is dedicated to The Love Dare... I will try to share my thoughts each day... Last night was about patience, and patience is something that I struggle with daily because I am an impatient person but I am working on it.

Zach is in the process of find a job. Something that uses his training from the Army. His MOS is 25U-Signal Support Systems Specialist. If you would like to Google that and give me any ideas of what he could do we would greatly appreciate it... When he processed with his unit today they gave him a website to look at so maybe between that and you guys he can find something.

I am in desperate need of new pictures of me and Zach not just your ordinary candid shots, I want professional photos to hang in our house. I guess the last professional pictures we had were our wedding pictures and that was almost three years ago... My only hold up is the cost... It is so expensive to have professional photos taken and then I end up going crazy when I actually order the prints. When we had photos taken on the beach several years ago I spent over $200 on prints! There were so many that I liked!!!

Do you remember my friends Katie and Joseph... well if you have been following her blog you already know that Joseph made it to Iraq safely. Please remember to keep them in your prayers as they go through the next 15 months apart!

These are just a few of the things running through my little ol' brain right now and that is just a glimpse at little ol' me!

There's No Place Like Home

Zach and I are officially back in our house. We moved out bed over there on Saturday night and we slept there. We moved stuff all day yesterday and I am one tired Chickie... We got a lot of stuff unpacked and a lot of stuff still left to unpack and a few things that we still have to move from Karmen's... But it is so good to be home!!!

The only bad thing is we don't have internet access at home yet so it is hard for me to read blogs from my iPhone because on Blogger it only shows the most recent two posts from you guys, so today is catch up day and I guarantee you that it will take me all day!

Happy Monday!

Houston we have AIR

Our a/c unit at our house is officially working as of last night! So we are another step closer to moving back to our house!!!

We went over there last night and I just spent some time walking around, remembering what it looked like full of furniture, thinking of ways to rearrange the different rooms... I miss living there and I can't wait to move back! I have enjoye my time at Karmen and Matt's and I am so grateful that they allowed me to live with them while Zach was gone but I can't wait to be back in my house!

There really is no place like home!

It's FREE money y'all!

I can't remember if I have mentioned my love for SwagBucks on here. I just redeemed some of my SwagBucks for another $5 gift card to Amazon. So that brings my total to $15 in Amazon gift cards!!! Just for searching the internet like normal!!!

Here is how it works... If I need to find the address for a business, I simply type the name of that business into SwagBucks search and I could get some SwagBucks! You can get one, two, three, and sometimes even FIVE just for searching the internet like you normally would. And the results it brings up are the same results as Yahoo and Google!!!

You can then redeem your SwagBucks for all kinds of cool prizes!!!

Now the only problem I have right now is finding something that I really want that I can't bare to pay for it myself (because of the price) and save up Amazon gift cards to purchase it!!!

I heart SwagBucks!!!

more about the decisions

Heather suggested that I put pictures up to help you guys... I will do my best to get some pictures of our living room and the picture that I am talking about with the adirondack chairs and I will also go to Lowe's and get some swatches of the two colors I am looking at and will post again about this!!!

Not sure what I am talking about? See the post below for the details!

decisions, decisions

Ok you guys, I have a BIG decision to make...

I need to choose a color to paint our living room... Zach painted our living room red about two years ago right after I had surgery for my melanoma... I was still on pain medication and was in no mood to argue when he said he was going to paint it red... fast forward a few months and I was officially hating the color... everytime you walked in there it screamed ROLL TIDE at you!!! (ha!) No seriously, it was such a bright color and not something that I would have chosen myself...

so here comes the decision part... I am currently leaning towards green for our living room and then in the back of my mind I still have the longing for the blue that I originally wanted when Zach painted the room red...

We have this beautiful picture of two adirondack chairs sitting in the grass in front of a lake with an American flag draped over one of the chairs... I was thinking a blue-gray would look pretty with the water of the lake... but we are wanting to get new furniture for our living room and we are looking at a brown leather couch and chair and I think the green would look awesome with that AND the picture... I don't think the blue-gray color would look good with the furniture but I really like the blue-gray color!!! I am an indecisive person, can you tell?

I need some serious help though!!! Does anyone want to volunteer to be my personal interior decorator???

Also, if anyone wants to volunteer to fix my air conditioner too that would be greatly appreciated!!! Because Chickie is ready to move back home and Chickie can not live in a hot house... don't believe me? Ask my husband, he will tell you that I am not a happy camper when I am hot!

the question of the week...

"Since Zach is home, when are you going to start trying to have a baby?" I can't count the number of times I have been asked that since Zach got home last week...

The answer? Well I can't tell you, then I would have to shoot you... I'm just kidding. I really can't tell you though. We have discussed it though but that is between us for now. We will let the world know we are pregnant whenever that time may come...

We want to surprise our families with our pregnancy so we have decided to not tell anyone when we start trying! Surprises really are the best you know!

I have always thought about how we would tell our families that we are going to have a baby! I have read of people wrapping up pregnancy tests and giving it as a gift... signing a holiday card "X, Y and Baby Z"... the most unique I have heard of so far was when my sister-in-law Erika told us that they were expecting. We all went to their house for dinner and game night and we decided to play hangman... I bet you can guess where this is going... Her puzzle's answer was "I am pregnant"!!! We were so excited!!! So I have to have something exciting for when we tell our families...

What are some fun and exciting ways that you guys told your families that you were pregnant? Leave them in the comments section and I will post the really good ones in a blog post in the future!!! And who knows, I might steal your idea to tell our families that we are expecting when the time comes!!!

Moving Back In

I am sitting here making a list of things we need to buy before/after we move back to our house... Mostly groceries since we took all of ours to Karmen's and they are long gone...

I have been sitting here for a few minutes and have already filled up an entire page... and there is tons more that I know needs to be on this list... So this all got me to thinking that we need to have a "We're Moving Back in Party"... Kind of like a stock the pantry party for newlyweds but only we aren't newlyweds anymore... I am totally kidding about the party but man I wish we were still newlyweds so we could have a party and be done with it!!! I just looked at our local grocery store ad to kind of remind me what we may need... I kept seeing things that I wanted but those things will have to wait because our needs are way more important!!!

I'm off to finish my list... Hopefully everything won't cost us an arm and a leg...

Happy Monday!

We can't wait to be back at our house with our puppies!!!

In other news... We had an amazing weekend! Zach's birthday dinner at Top of the River was amazing! We love that place!!! If you are ever in Gadsden or Guntersville Alabama you should really try Top of the River, YUMMY!!!!

We have been making the rounds to see everyone since Zach is now home, so our weekend mostly consisted of that.

We went to church on Sunday where we celebrated Father's Day, Baptist Men's Day, and our church's anniversary! We had a fabulous lunch after church and it was so nice to see everyone again and be able to fellowship with them after the service!!!

Life is so wonderful right now and we are working hard to get back into our house in the next week or so!!!

Pictures coming soon!!!

I'm tired...

I am too tired to write about graduation and all of that fun stuff... So since this post was already finished I am publishing it, you know just to remind you guys that I am still alive...

I am sitting here in my hotel room and I just finished getting ready for the day ahead. I heard my phone go off a little bit ago and it was my email tone so I signed in to Yahoo to check it... It was an email from some company that I have never heard of thanking me for my recent order... my heart literally stopped! I haven't placed an order with this company and they had my name and my address at my sister's house. I still have all of my mail going to my house so the only way for it to go to Karmen's house would be for me to enter it(or someone impersonating me...i.e. hacked into my computer because I have ordered stuff and had it sent to her house)... I was starting to freak out a little bit. I quickly called the company and explained that I did not place this order and asked her when it was placed and by who... She told me it was placed on line and gave me the name of the person and I didn't recognize it. I mean I know lots of people with this person's first name but the last name didn't ring a bell! I was really starting to panic by this time. I have had problems with credit/debit card numbers being compromised and the last thing I wanted to deal with was that all over again. Luckily my debit/credit cards had not been charged. So the lady asked for my phone number to compare to the phone number that was on the order and it didn't match either so she told me that she was going to call that number and find out what was going on...

I hung up with her and as soon as I did my phone went off again and it was yet again an email... this time it was from Sweet Momma over at Adventures with Three. She was telling me that she had ordered my gift for me being the 4001 visitor to her blog! It was then that it hit me! Duh, Kristen this is the person who placed the order!!! So I quickly called the lady back that I had just spoke to and tried to catch her before she called Sweet Momma but it was too late, she was already on the phone with her!

So then I get another email from Sweet Momma telling me that she is the person that placed the order! Yeah I figured that one out after I had already freaked out and called them!!! But Sweet Momma was sweet about it and I will be receiving a copy of The Love Dare in the mail very soon!

So everything in the end was great, it was just the 10 or 15 minutes of panic that got to me!!!

Thanks Sweet Momma, I can't wait to read the book!!!

Not good, not good at all...

Today my faithful blog readers (the handful of you who actually read my ramblings) I decided that I would try a McDonald's salad for lunch. I ordered the Bacon Ranch with grilled chicken. I also order a Fruit and Yogurt Parfait and an iced McCafe...

Fruit and Yogurt Parfait- DELICIOUS!!!

Iced McCafe- PHENOMENAL!!!

Bacon Ranch salad- DISGUSTING!!!

I don't know what is was about it but it just was not good... Thank goodness for the Fruit and Yogurt Parfait and iced McCafe or I would have been one starving Chickie by now!!!

Now the real reason I started this post... Retirement! My friends I got splendid news today! I can retire on September 1, 2045! Why am I excited about this you ask? Well because that is two years sooner than the last time I got this statement. Not sure how that happened but I will definitely take it!!! So retirement is knocking on my door even if it is 38 years away!

In other news... At 12:30 tomorrow I will be leaving work and heading to Georgia with Zach's parents for the last time! Zach will graduate (hopefully as an Honor Grad) on Wednesday afternoon and will be coming home for us!

We had a great visit this past weekend and I have some pictures but they are at home and I am at work so those will have to wait until another day!

It seems like just yesterday that he started AIT and now here we are, 17 weeks later and he is graduating!

We are so ready to move back to our house and live a normal life. But I am going to miss coming home to Ava every day. I love getting hugs and kisses from her as soon as I walk in the door! No matter how bad of a day I had I know that Ava will be excited to see me and that makes everything so much better!

That is all I have for now folks, I must get back to work... Have a great afternoon!

...my husband will be home in less than a week!!! I can't wait!

...there are so many good things going on in my life right now!!!

...watermelon is officially in season and I have already eaten my fair share of it!

...I have a day and a half off next week, vacation time is always exciting for me!!!

...I finally have business cards at work!!! After 5 years of working here, I finally have some!

What are you excited about? Is your birthday coming up? Are you going on vacation? I would love to hear about it whatever it is!!!

Speculation

There has been a lot of speculation over the last few days about a certain blog. It breaks my heart that it has been confirmed that this indeed was a hoax. MckMama and Angie Smith both posted about the situation, along with Raechel who was just a friend trying to be supportive. Feel free to visit their blogs to read their posts...

I am not going to go into depth on this but I am going to ask you to pray for those involved... Those that have been lied to and those that did this. I have read several posts and comments where people are arguing over whether it was true or not and now that the truth is out we all need to just pray about it.

Sometimes I don't understand why people do certain things, but I can lean on God to help me through and to help me understand.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Please join me in prayer for Angie, MckMama, and Raechel today! Thank you friends!

Just a quick update

I am still alive you guys! I have been trying to catch up on the stuff that I couldn't get done while the auditors were here. They left kind of early on Friday so that was good. I was able to avoid them and not have to answer any questions. Go me!!!

I am looking forward to going to Augusta this weekend because it is our last weekend there! I have enjoyed visiting and sight-seeing but I really just want to stay at my house and relax for once and that day is almost here!!!

Oh! I got my business cards in for work today!!! I am so excited, no more writing my name and number on a sticky note. They are fabulous!!! Yes, only I would be excited about business cards!!!

I am wanting to get back into quilting but nothing in depth like what I was trying to do a while back. I want to start off with a simple patchwork quilt and then move on to some different patterns! I found a pattern that I want to try first so when Zach gets home and we get settled in our house I am going to see if my mom will let me borrow her sewing machine to get started!!! I will keep you all up to date on this...

Zach is at his field training exercise and he couldn't carry his phone. He left on Sunday and will be back on Friday. So, a whole week without talking to him... but at least I get to see him! It is weird how I plan my day around when he calls me. He called me every morning when he got up which was around 3:15 my time... Then he called me around 12:45 my time everyday and then he called me at 5:00 my time every evening and we would talk until time for bed check. I woke up yesterday morning in a panic around 4:00 my time because I thought I missed his call but then I realized that he would not be calling... I will be glad when we can actually see each other every day and not just talk on the phone during the week and see each other on the weekend! And that day is almost here my friends!!!

Maybe when Zach gets home I will have something more interesting to post about than what we did in Augusta the previous weekend! We'll see!!!

Hope you guys have a great day, I am going to run some errands for work!

Let me introduce you to...

my friend Katie. Katie is "Miss K" from previous posts. She has decided to start a blog! YEA!

If you will remember her boyfriend Joseph is in the National Guard and he is being deployed to Iraq in the coming weeks and I am sure she will keep us updated on how he is and what is going on in her life without him here.

Please keep her in your prayers! Joseph is still in Mississippi getting ready to leave. I think he will be able to come home in the next few weeks for a few days to visit and then he will be heading overseas!

Katie has become a good friend of mine over the past few months. When Zach was still in high school I knew of her because I knew that Zach was friends with Joseph and that Joseph was dating Katie. That was about all I knew about her until Joseph was sent to Fort Gordon for a few weeks and we all got to hang out! She is super sweet, beautiful, has a contagious smile, and oh my gosh she is so smart! Many thanks to the Army for bringing her into my life!

So head on over to her blog and welcome her to the blogging world!

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome

I would like to give a big shout out to all of my new followers! Thank you so much for reading about my sometimes boring life...

So since so many of you are new let me tell you a little about my self...

My name is Kristen and I am from Birmingham, Alabama. I have lived here my entire life, which happens to be 23 years. I will be 24 on August 20th. I have a twin sister, Karmen who is one minute older than I am.

I married my handsome husband, Zach on September 30, 2006. I met him back in 2002 at a salon where him, his mom, and brother had gone to get the boys' hair cut. Karmen, myself, and my mom were there getting ours cut as well. My mom and Zach's mom worked together. Karmen and I told our mom that he was cute and he told his mom that he thought we were cute. So mom gave our number to Kathy (Zach's mom). She wrote Kristen and Karmen and then our phone number. The next day I got a call from Zach and we start talking and he asked me to go to the movies with him, well I am 10 months older than he is so on our first date I had to drive... Anyways, years later I asked Zach why he called me because both of our names were on there and being a twin I knew he didn't remember which one I was. Get ready for it people, his answer was "your name was first"... Thank goodness Mom wrote my name first for once. And as they say, the rest is history.

I graduated high school in 2003 and went to UAB for 2 years and decided that UAB was not the right school for me so I went to work full time and I have yet to start back to college. And I am completely ok with that. I have a great job with excellent benefits and that is all I need.

Zach enlisted with the Army reserves in September 2008 and started Basic Training at Fort Benning in November 2008. He graduated from Basic in February 2009 and immediately went into AIT at Fort Gordon. He will finish up at Fort Gordon this month and will come home and live as a civilian and go to his unit once a month for drill. There is always a chance that he will get deployed somewhere but we can't live in the "what ifs" we are just taking it one day at a time. His enlistment is up in 2014 and he can then re-enlist or come out of it completely... Not sure what he will do yet, I guess we will see!

We have two fur babies, Max and Emma. They are both Pomeranians, they love Zach more than me but that is just fine by me... I still love them!

Right now in our lives we are just waiting to live under the same roof again which will happen in 13 short days! We can't wait to move back to our house and get our two fur babies back from my mom and dad.

As for children, we have none yet but you will have to keep reading along to find out when... I promise they will be coming one day. We both love children! Zach's dad has requested five grandbabies from all three of his children! I don't know about 5 Mr. Larry, but we have agreed on 3 for now... but that could all change depending on what is going on in our lives.

Now, my lovely blogging friends it is time to introduce yourself to the others on my blog... Go to your blog, write an introduction post and leave it in the Mister Linky below and we can all go visit your blog and read all about your fabulous lives!

(If you don't have a blog, we don't want to leave you out, so leave a comment in the comments section telling about yourself! Also, if some of you don't participate my feelings will be hurt... just kidding!)

Alabama's new state song...

It's raining, it's pouring... I wish I was snoring...

Wait, that's not how it goes...

Seriously though, it has been raining a lot here in Alabama in recent weeks and all of this dreary weather is making me sleepy! I think an afternoon nap time is in order...

Today it has rained so much that our drive thru here at the credit union is flooded, not cool, not cool at all!

I am in a fabulous mood today... Anyone care to take a guess as to why???

I am sure Karmen is raising her hand and she is probably saying "Because Zach is coming home in exactly two weeks and you can finally move out of my house!" Way to go Karmen you are exactly right! Well about the Zach coming home part... Moving out part, not so sure about... Just kidding! I owe Karmen, Matt, and Ava a huge thank you for allowing me to live with them since Zach left. It has been so nice to have someone to come home to every evening to keep me occupied through the first few months that Zach was gone because those my friends were some rough months! So thanks you guys!

Anyways, I have to go be productive at work now! Hope you are having a fabulous Wednesday!!!

Not Me! Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

Not a whole lot that I didn't do this weekend or last week, but here goes.

I did not forget to put my husband's vehicle registration slip back in his truck after I did our taxes this year... I most certainly did not drive his truck to Augusta this past weekend because the air is not broken in my car, again... I also did not have my vehicle searched while I was at Fort Gordon and that is when I did not realize that the registration was not in there, because I would never drive without all proper documentation being in the vehicle.

While above mentioned search was going on I was not asked to pop the hood of the truck by the nice security guard and then I did not have to shamefully admit to her that I could pop it from the inside but I was totally clueless on how to get it open from there... I would never admit something like that...

I also did not watch the clock like a hawk on Saturday waiting until 11:00 for Hungry Howie's to open so I could call and have a pizza delivered. I did not sleep past the cut off for breakfast at the hotel and did not wake up starving... Pizza for breakfast yummy!!!

*My vehicle was searched because Zach's truck does not have a Department of Defense decal and they routinely search vehicles that don't have DOD stickers... No I did not do anything wrong to warrant being searched, but I have to admit it was quite embarrassing to sit there while they search it, I felt like I did something wrong.

Happy Not Me Monday Bloggers!!!!!!!!!

P.S. The auditors are still here and I am a nervous wreck... It is going to be a long week!

Simply Amazing

Through the world of blogging you can "meet" some amazing people... Many have heartbreaking stories and others have happy stories.

This morning I came in and Angie at Bring the Rain had posted about receiving a letter from someone and she told about the letter. I read her story of losing here mom on Bring the Rain and at the very end Angie linked to Lauren (aka "That Girl"). So I clicked right over to Lauren's blog... She is my age, I couldn't imagine losing my mom right now. I can't imagine losing my mom at any age really, not something I want to think about right now... Yes I know it will someday happen but I don't want to think about it...

Anyways, back to Lauren. She is funny, smart, and just an all around amazing woman! Go read through her blog (as I will continue doing this evening when I get home from work) and don't forget to let her know that you stopped by...

Also, I have a prayer request. A friend of mine from high school posted on Facebook about another girl that we went to high school with had her baby early. Not sure how early or the extent of the complications. I do know that he is tiny and according to my friend will have to have some surgeries. Please remember this family in your prayers as they go through the next several weeks and months with their new baby boy.
